  türk-sent

[Joe Monzo]

A very small unit of interval measurement for Turkish music, invented by M. Ekrem Karadeniz in 1965.

A türk-sent divides the 53-edo comma into 200 logarithmically equal parts. It therefore divides the octave into 53 * 200 = 10,600 equal parts.

The türk-sent is therefore calculated as the 10600th root of 2, or 2(1/10600), with a ratio of approximately 1:1.000065393. It is an irrational number.

A türk-sent is

• exactly 96/1325 (= 0.07245283 = ~ 1/14 ) of a 6mu.
• exactly 5/53 (= ~ 0.09433962264 = ~ 1/11 ) of a millioctave,
• exactly 6/53 (= 0.113207547 = ~ 1/9 ) of a cent,
• exactly 2 8903/10600 (= 2.83990566 = ~ 2 8/9 ) jots,
• approximately 3 1/2 (= ~ 3.474398887 ) temperament units,
• exactly 4 844/1325 (= 4.636981132 = ~ 4 2/3 ) 12mus.
• exactly 18 726/1325 (= 18.5479245283 = ~ 18 1/2 ) 14mus.

The formula for calculating the türk-sent-value of any ratio r is: türk-sents = log10(r) * [ ( 53 * 200 ) / log10(2) ] or türk-sents = log2(r) * ( 53 * 200 )

A türk-sent represents one degree of 10600-edo tuning.

The 12-edo semitone is ~883.3333333 (exactly 883 1/3 ) türk-sents.

Ratio may be entered as fraction or floating-point decimal number.
(value must be greater than 1)

For EDOs (equal-temperaments), type: "a/b" (without quotes)
where "a" = EDO degree and "b" = EDO cardinality.
(value must be less than 1)

Enter ratio: = türk-sents
